The Untold Story of Jasprit Bumrah: From Street Cricket to India’s Most Dangerous Bowler

Jasprit Bumrah : The Fearless Fast Bowler Dominating World Cricket

Jasprit Bumrah is a charismatic star of the cricket world, perhaps unknown to anyone. He is the world’s No. 1 bowler and Team India’s most reliable fast bowler. Bowling to him is a guarantee of a wicket.

The tagline “Bring Bumrah, Get a Wicket” is specifically coined for him. Whenever the team needs a wicket, Bumrah is remembered, and he turns the match around on his tail.

No matter what format of cricket, taking a wicket has never been challenging for Bumrah. He possesses more than one lethal weapon that can have the batsman facing him kneeling on his tail.

Bumrah is known for his deadly yorker, shot ball and dangerous bold in his spell. Most of the time he is the only bowler who takes a wicket in his first ball itself and in the death overs he has the power to take 3-4 wickets in a single over.

Bumrah’s magic was also seen in the final match of T-20 World Cup held yesterday against New Zealand when he bowled 2 Kiwi batsmen consecutively with his yorker and took 4 wickets in the match giving only 15 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah biography and early life.

Jaspreet Bumrah was born on 6 December 1993 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat but his childhood was not that good. At the age of just 5, he lost his father and the responsibility of his care fell on his mother Daljit Bumrah.

Jasprit’s mother raised two children single-handedly and prepared one of India’s best fast bowlers by working 16-18 hours.

While working as the Vice Principal of a private high school, there came a time when she did not even have money to buy milk. Little Jassi had only one pair of shoes and a T-shirt, which she had to wash and wear repeatedly.

Her mother never forced her to pursue medicine or engineering and always supported her passion. After school, her mother continued to support her by watching Daljit online.

Jasprit Bumrah coach

Only a jeweler can test a diamond.

Moving ahead due to circumstances and compulsions, when coaches Kishore Trivedi and Ketal Purohit saw the talent in Jasprit Bumrah, they extended all possible help so that he could attend every practice session, even if the money was not less.

Trivedi and the school selectors selected Jasprit for the Under-19 state team and his first big opportunity came in the 2013 Syed Ali Mustaq Trophy.

How Jasprit Bumrah became a fast bowler

At the age of 19, Jasprit made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians and took three wickets against RCB, which also included Virat Kohli. His mother’s eyes filled with tears while watching him on the TV screen for the first time – years of hard work and struggle were visible in a moment.

After this, he never looked back and he continued to dominate in every format of cricket. Later, he was selected as the player of the tournament in the ICC T-20 World Cup 2024. Later, he also became the ICC test cricketer of the year.

Behind every yorker, every hat-trick and every record, there was a mother who overcame struggle, fatigue and difficulties and the credit for the position that Jasprit Bumrah has reached today goes to his mother and coach Kishore Trivedi.

On 8 March 2026, Women’s Day, Jaspreet led India to a historic victory in the Men’s T20 World Cup, taking 4 wickets in the final and becoming the Player of the Match.

Jasprit Bumrah International Debut for India

Jasprit Bumrah made his international debut in 2016.

His first appearance for India came in a T20 International against Australia.

Within a short time, he became an essential part of India’s bowling attack across all formats.

His ability to perform in:

  • Test cricket
  • One Day Internationals (ODIs)
  • T20 Internationals

made him one of the most versatile fast bowlers in the world.

The Unique Bowling Action

One of the most distinctive features of Bumrah is his unconventional bowling action.

Unlike traditional fast bowlers, Bumrah has:

  • A short run-up
  • A stiff arm release
  • A slinging action

This unusual technique makes it extremely difficult for batsmen to read the ball.

Because of the late release point, the ball often reaches the batsman faster than expected, creating confusion and pressure.

Many cricket experts believe this is one of the main reasons why Bumrah is so successful in modern cricket.

Records and Achievements

Jasprit Bumrah has achieved several remarkable milestones in his career.

Some of his major achievements include:

  • One of the fastest Indian bowlers to take 100 ODI wickets
  • Among the few bowlers with five-wicket hauls in South Africa, England, and Australia
  • Key player in multiple IPL title victories for Mumbai Indians
  • Frequently ranked among the top bowlers in ICC rankings

His ability to perform under pressure has made him indispensable for India.
